Participants at the event will discuss the main complexities stemming from the European Public Prosecutor's Office's (EPPO’s) operational work after its successful start on 1 June 2021. They can exchange ideas on practices for achieving greater added value in the protection of the Union’s financial interests.

As a result of online investigations, almost all criminal courts are confronted with the question of whether or not electronic evidence presented in criminal proceedings is admissible. Rules governing the admissibility of electronic evidence vary in the legal framework of different Member States and are continuously challenged by the evolution of technological devices such as computers, mobile phones and digital cameras.

This hybrid conference will provide legal practitioners and data protection specialists with an update and guidance on new data protection rules. It will give them insights into how to balance them with the demands of the modern economy and an opportunity to discuss the issues at stake with key legal experts. Global perspectives, post-GDPR challenges and recent CJEU case law will also be addressed.

The 2022 Summer Academy for Global Privacy Law will take place in a hybrid format, both online and on-site. In the morning, participants will attend lectures by selected speakers including internationally recognised academics, policy makers, data protection authorities, and civil society representatives. In the afternoon, they will engage in interactive sessions and teamwork allowing them to further connect regardless of their location.

The sustainability of AI solutions is inextricably linked with the way they process data. To be really trustworthy and human-centric, AI needs to align with those principles grounding sustainable data processing, including the idea of using –  and sharing –  more accurate and pertinent data. At the same time, AI-based solutions are considered, perhaps too optimistically, the cornerstone of the green transition in the European Union.
