On 25 May 2022, the European Commission tabled a proposal for a Council Decision aiming to add the violation of Union restrictive measures to the areas of "EU crimes" laid down in Art. 83(1) TFEU. This will then allow the Commission to initiate a Directive harmonising national criminal laws.
