The 2022 Summer Academy for Global Privacy Law will take place in a hybrid format, both online and on-site. In the morning, participants will attend lectures by selected speakers including internationally recognised academics, policy makers, data protection authorities, and civil society representatives. In the afternoon, they will engage in interactive sessions and teamwork allowing them to further connect regardless of their location.

The sustainability of AI solutions is inextricably linked with the way they process data. To be really trustworthy and human-centric, AI needs to align with those principles grounding sustainable data processing, including the idea of using –  and sharing –  more accurate and pertinent data. At the same time, AI-based solutions are considered, perhaps too optimistically, the cornerstone of the green transition in the European Union.

This two-day course examines growing concerns regarding counter-extremism and democratic rule. Each of our four workshops explores different means by which counter-extremism measures reveal conventional democratic models to be undertheorised or to overlook important contributing values and justifications. Engaging at individual, state, and international levels, the course aims to stimulate discussion on a wide range of substantive and procedural questions.

In 2002, the EU replaced traditional extradition - based upon bilateral treaties - with the European Arrest Warrant (EAW). 20 years later, a two-day advanced seminar investigates current worldwide developments in extradition law.

This hybrid conference will bring legal practitioners up to date by providing an overview of the latest policy developments, legislative initiatives and case law in this field.

This seminar focuses on alternatives to detention, also within the context of the European Arrest Warrant, as well as issues surrounding the proper use of Framework Decision 2008/947/JHA on probation and alternative sanctions and Framework Decision 2009/829/JHA on supervision measures as an alternative to provisional detention. The seminar is co-funded by the European Commission and the start of a series of five seminars on the topic of enhancing cross-border MLA in the EU.
