The seminar will give practitioners an overview of the state of play in financial technology and innovation, focusing on three main aspects: a) how artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data is transforming the scope and modus operandi of financial supervision and financial compliance; b) distributed ledger technology (DLT) and its legal implications for businesses, in particular company law and banking; and c) how virtual assets are regulated and what legal implications they have.

The Centre of European Law has the pleasure to invite you to the conference entitled “European Public Prosecutor Office – challenges to (over)come. National and European perspective”. The speakers will be Daniel Nitu and Julio Baquero Cruz.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together practitioners and academics to reflect on the challenges to concepts of jurisdiction and to stimulate new perspectives on jurisdiction and the criminal law.

The - live streamed - conference will provide a space for legal debate on the current impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on individual human rights, on its regulation and on the application in practice of legal principles related to AI in line with the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

The event will focus on how AI could be used to predict crimes and as a criminal intelligence tool, enabling the shift from a traditionally reactionary approach to crime-fighting to one that is more proactive and preventative in character.

The conference aims to provide legal practitioners and data protection specialists with the necessary guidance on how to apply Regulation 2018/1725 on data protection in European institutions in practice. It will offer an opportunity to discuss with key legal experts the novelties and issues at stake.

The conference will provide a forum for discussion on issues related to the establishment of the EPPO and preparation of the Member States that participate in the enhanced cooperation for the implementation of the Regulation.

This conference aims at presenting an update on the state of play regarding the six EU Directives on procedural rights and discussing the need for further measures at EU level. The conference will offer lectures, round-tables and discussions for judges, prosecutors, defence lawyers, court interpreters, as well as prison and probation staff from all over the EU.

The seminar will analyse the latest developments and challenges faced within the EU in dealing with and countering migrant smuggling. This will be done within the context of the ongoing shifting routes of irregular migration and issues being faced in relation to the criminalisation of the facilitation of irregular migration vs. the giving of humanitarian assistance, as well as how enhancing cooperation with third countries can assist in countering migrant smuggling and its root causes.

The main objective of this seminar is to train EU legal practitioners on the fundamentals of computer forensics enabling them to gain an understanding of the complex challenges related to criminal cases with tech/internet components. This seminar will focus on open-source intelligence tools and forensic analysis.
