Convictions in VAT Carousel Fraud Case with Luxury Cars

German criminal courts handed down first judgments in a major EPPO case that dismantled a VAT carousel fraud ring involving luxury cars. This scheme was investigated since 2021 by the EPPO in Germany, and is estimated to have caused losses of at least €13 million. Read more
Arrangement with Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Authority

Arrangement with Special Prosecution Service in Albania

On 29 June 2023, the EPPO concluded a working arrangement with the Special Anti-Corruption and Organised Crime Structure of the Republic of Albania (SPAK). SPAK is a specialised prosecution service independent from the General Prosecutor’s Office of Albania. Read more
Arrangement between EPPO and Hellenic Independent Authority of Public Revenues Signed

ECBA: Courts in the Assisting Member State Must Have Full Review Powers

In an open letter, the ECBA makes statements on the first case dealing with the interpretation of the EPPO Regulation before the CJEU. The case was referred by the Oberlandesgericht Wien (Austria) and poses the question as to which extent the courts of the assisting European Delegated Prosecutor (EDP) can verify an investigative measure under their national law when it was authorised in the Member State of the EDP handling the case. European Chief Prosecutor Complained about Ireland’s Non-Cooperation

On 23 November 2022, European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi addressed a letter to the Commission on Ireland’s refusal to cooperate with the EPPO. Kövesi pointed out that Ireland has persistently refused to execute EPPO’s requests for judicial cooperation since it does not recognise the EPPO as a competent authority for the application of existing instruments for judicial cooperation. EPPO Establishes Advisory Board for Asset Recovery and Money Laundering

By decision 042/2022 of 28 September 2022, the EPPO College established an asset recovery and money laundering advisory board (ARMLAB). It is a central body within the EPPO, building up expertise as well as facilitating and streamlining EPPO’s strategic objectives in the fields of asset recovery and money laundering. Read more
Cooperation between EPPO and Luxembourgish FIU
