The three-day seminar brought together 38 European judicial and legal practitioners and academics from eight EU Member States looking at use of the European Arrest Warrant. It is part of a series of seminars to be continued in Bucharest/Romania and Lisbon/Portugal in 2020. The aim of EAW AWARE is to support, discuss, and build mutual trust and recognition of decisions between neighbouring European judiciaries and to promote consistent use of the EAW tool by European bodies.

Legal experts met in Sarnico/Italy for the fourth edition of the international conference to brainstorm on current developments in extradition law and the practice of the European Arrest Warrant (EAW). This report summarises the presentations and looks at the Vth edition to be held in June 2020.

The UK’s withdrawal from the EU and hence from the European criminal justice area has significant consequences for judicial cooperation in criminal matters. This seminar will focus on the post-Brexit relationship between the EU and the UK in this area. It will give participants an overview of which elements in European criminal justice are affected during the transition period and how a future post-Brexit cooperation between the EU and the UK may look beyond.

The annual seminar on International Extradition and the European Arrest Warrant has attracted over 100 extradition experts since 2016 (programs in Oxford and Lake Iseo, Italy) and is now a well-established tradition for extradition experts around the world. In 2020, this event celebrates its V edition. Recent famous extradition cases will be reviewed and attention will be paid to the most popular lines of argument that are raised in extradition cases.
