This online seminar will explore the role and powers of EU agencies in the EU decision-making process. Their impact on the powers of the European Commission and the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the EU will be analysed. Finally, the future of the EU agencies will be discussed.

This online conference is one of the first seminars that will assess the post-Brexit relationship between the EU and the UK in the area of judicial/law enforcement cooperation in criminal matters, based on the recently concluded Trade and Cooperation Agreement. It will give participants an overview of which elements in European criminal justice are affected, how the new form of post-Brexit cooperation between the EU and the UK will take shape and what practical steps are being implemented.

The online seminar, which forms part of a series of five co-funded by the European Commission on enhancing cross-border mutual legal assistance and recognition of decisions within the context of detention, will focus on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), ECtHR and CJEU case law in dealing with detention conditions and the application of mutual legal assistance instruments.

The practical training (online) will help legal practitioners understand how Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems operate and how they can impact individual human rights. An update on the future rules at EU and Council of Europe level will be provided, together with relevant international and national case law.

The intensive practical online training will provide participants with sound knowledge of the scope and interpretation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and of its practical implementation in national legal orders, in particular with regard to the right to a fair trial.

The online conference deals with the question how the rule of law and human rights protection can be ensured and strengthened in Germany and Europe in view of current challenges. Conference languages are German and English
