OLAF successfully supported the international operation OPSON IX that targeted counterfeit and substandard food and beverages, food fraud, and economically motivated adulteration. In total, 19 organised crime groups were dismantled, over 400 suspects arrested, and 320 tonnes of smuggled or substandard dairy products, e.g., rotten milk and cheese, seized. Read more

On 27 July 2018, the European Central Bank (ECB) published it half-yearly statistics on euro banknote counterfeiting. 301,000 counterfeit euro banknotes were withdrawn from circulation in the first half of 2018. This is the lowest number of withdrawn counterfeit euro banknotes since 2015. Read more
