This hybrid seminar will address the current European anti-money laundering landscape and focus on the changes implemented since the adoption of the fourth, fifth and sixth Anti-Money Laundering Directives and the new Directive on enhancing FIU cooperation and access to financial information.

The event convenes EU and international law experts who will address the EU’s efforts in combating impunity for core international crimes. Taking stock of the recent developments, they will unpack the EU’s response to the war in Ukraine, and tackle whether this war triggered a broader paradigm shift in the fight against impunity. The conference will be structured around four panels.

Training of defence lawyers with special regard to European criminal law has gained more and more importance over the years. This is not only due to the rising number of measures regarding European instruments of mutual recognition and cooperation in criminal matters like the EAW and the EIO, but also to those instruments being applied in a common manner, which, in turn, is resulting in rising numbers of cases in which such instruments are part of the proceedings.
