On 11 February 2022, OLAF reported that it signed a cooperation arrangement with the Office of the Prosecutor General of Hungary. The arrangement lays down practical modalities for closer cooperation in order to protect EU funds from potential fraud in the country. This is also important since Hungary does not participate in the scheme of enhanced cooperation regarding the EPPO. The arrangement with OLAF includes inter alia:

  • Information sharing between OLAF and the Hungarian Prosecutor General on specific investigations;
  • Operational assistance;
  • Shared training opportunities and technical assistance.

According to Hungarian Prosecutor General Péter Polt, the arrangement formalised the already excellent cooperation between OLAF and the Prosecution Service of Hungary, which has so far been fulfilled by the parties on the basis of common interests and objectives. Hungary is also the only country of the non-participating states to the EPPO that concluded a working arrangement with the new Office (→ eucrim 1/2021, 14).
