On 28 September 2026, the Council of the European Union appointed two new European Prosecutors to the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO): Christopher Wenzl for Germany and Tanja Frank Eler for Slovenia. Both were appointed for a non-renewable term of six years.

Christopher Wenzl will take office on 1 November 2026, succeeding Andrés Ritter, who was appointed European Chief Prosecutor in March 2026, with effect from the same date (➝eucrim 4/2025, 266-267).

Tanja Frank Eler's appointment forms part of the partial renewal of the EPPO College following the expiry of seven European Prosecutors' mandates in July 2026. Taking office on 7 October 2026, she succeeds Jaka Brezigar.

European Prosecutors supervise investigations and prosecutions and, together with the European Chief Prosecutor, form the EPPO College. Under Art. 16 of Regulation (EU) 2017/1939, the Council appoints one European Prosecutor for each participating EU Member State from a list of three candidates nominated by that state.
