The cooperation between Europol and INTERPOL is based on an existing arrangement, signed in 2001, which provides the framework for the two organisations to agree on joint operational priorities and strengthen their cooperation in areas of common interest. Within this framework, Europol and INTERPOL agreed, at the end of May 2026, on a new set of Joint Key Operational Priorities (JKOP) to guide their cooperation against cross-border crime over the coming year.

Developed by operational experts from both organisations, the priorities aim to enhance coordination and support joint efforts when criminal networks operate across national borders. They cover key areas, including organised crime, cybercrime, economic and financial crime, and counter-terrorism, enabling a more coordinated and proactive response to evolving criminal threats.
