On 9 April 2025, Europol and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed a Working Arrangement to enhance their cooperation in preventing and combating serious crime, including migrant smuggling, trafficking in human beings, drug trafficking, and child sexual exploitation. The arrangement provides for a structured and enhanced exchange of information on transnational, serious, and organised crime as well as the deployment of a liaison officer at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. It does not, however, provide a legal basis for the transfer of personal data. This is the first such arrangement between Europol and an African country.
