On 1 July 2019, Europol celebrated its 20th anniversary. On 1 July 1999, German Jürgen Storbeck, the former Director of the Europol Drugs Unit (EDU), was appointed as first Europol Director, and Europol commenced its full activities. In view of the 20th anniversary, Europol created a dedicated subpage on its website offering information on its history in an interactive way. It also includes a summary of its twenty most noteworthy operations and a compilation of twenty questions “you always wanted to ask about Europol.” While the 20 most noteworthy operations mainly give an overview on Europol’s operational development in the last 20 years, the 20 questions give answers to Europol’s current operational capabilities and investigative powers.
