The rule of law: what it means to me? – Why the rule of law is crucial for citizens

This lunch-time debate aims at bringing the notion of the “rule of law” closer to citizens and explaining what it means, why it is so important for everyone and what can happen when the respect for this rule is not upheld. For last years the European citizens have been faced with more and more statements that the rule of law is threatened, their basic rights are at danger and the values on which the EU is built are not common any more to all Member States.

They might have asked themselves a question why this topic draws so much attention, how it is connected to their everyday life, why it matters whether the rule of law is well preserved. During the debate, the experts in protecting citizens’ rights will try to address these questions and provide best possible answers.
