Online Sexual Violence & Image-Based Abuse: Investigation, Prosecution and Litigation

Published 1 year, 10 months ago (updated 1 year, 9 months ago)

Objective

Online sexual violence and in particular image-based abuse is steeply on the rise. Due to digitalisation the dissemination of child abuse material and intimate images of adults is ever increasing. New forms of online sexual violence such as deepnude, sextorsion and live-stream abuse have become highly topical during recent years, with the Covid-19 lockdowns accelerating this trend.

This criminal phenomenon has become a focal point of criminal justice policy, litigation and prosecution. With the new 2022 proposal for a directive on sexual abuse and the rethinking of the Child Abuse Directive, the European Commission intends to tackle this cross-border form of cyber-enabled crime. During this seminar, participants will obtain more insight into the EU legislation in the field, national legal responses, investigation techniques (in particular social media open-source investigations) and victim assistance.

Key topics
  • New EU legislation on online sexual and image-based abuse
  • National legal responses
  • Investigation techniques including OSINT and SOCMINT
  • Assistance to victims
Who should attend?

Judges, prosecutors, defence lawyers, law enforcers, in-house counsel, civil servants and policymakers active in the field of criminal law.
